Thank you for joining me for my lesson in script in copperplate style.
My personal form of script that I like to do is based on aerial form script which known as the Grossman script also known as Graser script also known as Raltan and I have articles that explain all that on line.com fully available, iampeth.com. I always practice on a grid that consists of 5 spaces - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. This middle space is my ‘x’ height it clearly demarcated by the lines Header and Baseline.
There is also I use these sort of slanted angles which represent the main slant angle of the shape and with this script, the fundamentals are that all of the hairline strokes are up strokes ok you can’t make hairline down strokes, it takes more skill so the hairline are up strokes. There’s nothing you couldn’t do - down stroke if you apply too much pressure to the pen and get a shade. All shades are down stroke. So you make the shades by applying pressure to the pen point and splaying your nib a little bit more.
This is part of a series of posts, you can read the rest of it by clicking on the links for the Table of Contents at the top of this post.
